Acoustic Piano is a traditional piano everybody is
familiar with. They have been built for over 300 years. It
produces sounds when the hammers strike the strings.
These pianos must be tuned twice a year to keep them in
good condition. Acoustic is used when making a
distinction between other forms of pianos. Think of the
term used for acoustic guitar that is a guitar that does not
use electricity.
Digital piano is an instrument duplicates the sound
and feel of an acoustic piano. It uses digitally sampled
sounds, amplifiers and speakers to recreate the piano
sound PLUS many more sounds to make playing fun!
They have weighted key action to imitate the action of an
acoustic piano.
Digital ensemble piano is an instrument that
duplicates the sound and feel of an acoustic piano. It uses
digitally sampled sounds, amplifiers and speakers to
recreate the sounds PLUS various types of digitally
sampled rhythms that make you sound like a full band is
accompanying you. These pianos may offer disk drives to
store your songs, CD’s to store your voice and song. You
can play piano, piano and strings or piano and a big band
with guitars and everything. You can play full piano with
accompaniment or one finger chords…fun fun fun!
Electric piano is an electro-acoustic instrument
similar to an electric guitar. It has real action, metal string
which vibrates and pickups to detect the audio signal for
amplification
Electronic keyboard. Sometimes people
confuse the keyboard with the digital piano. The keyboard
has no weighted key action. It generally has 61 keys and is
portable. They can be synthesizers (computer generated
sound) or arrangers with built-in sounds similar to the
sounds found in the digital ensemble.
